What a wonderful site! I am John Stevens great granddaughter, and it was great fun to see some family members and many familiar names on these pages. Oddly, I spent the first three years of my life in the mid 1950s on Arden Avenue in Edina, several blocks away from your home on Drexel and still live in MN. It is always sad to visit Neenah and see the gap in history where the Stevens home once stood. How wonderful that your house still stands.
ReplyDeleteIt's an amazingly small world, isn't it? You lived on Arden, and Nancy Kimberly Des Marais' son lives on Ross Avenue in San Anselmo, right by my old elementary school. I also interviewed your father at the house on Lake Road and enjoyed his company enormously. I often feel the loss of not having had more time with really gracious gentlemen such as he was.
DeleteI work at a thrift store in eau claire and we have a painting made by blanche cumming sheills.
ReplyDeleteIn the photo of the wedding of Jessica Stevens Alyward and Paul Kelley, there is a Mrs. George Davis in the front row. My great great grandfather was Dr. William Merklin. He was a Menasha physician and Pharmacist. One of his daughters, Anna, married a George Davis from Neenah. I’m wondering if the photo is of Anna Merklin Davis, who would have been a widow at that time.. Their wedding was May 15, 1888.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great site! My husband I just recently purchased the house Mrs. J.B. Kimberly-Hamilton built in Redlands, when she relocated after her husband's passing (across the street of the Kimberly Crest). I'm always trying to find pictures of her for the house history book. It was great to see her photo in the wedding picture posted above. Would love to see if there might be anymore ...
